Manning
Dennis C. Manning operates a horseshoeing and blacksmithing forge in rural northeastern Utah where all horseshoes and most tools are hand forged. Over the past three decades he has presented several clinics each year throughout the U.S. and Canada. Recently he returned from Britain and has done clinics in Australia and Japan. Tool making has been the most popular with several groups holding multiple clinics as they have built tools and developed their skills. The basic tool clinic covers the principles of steel selection, tool design and forging, and the heat treatment of tools from the forge fire. Participants are involved in hands on experiences as they learn and experiment with these processes. Each participant should take home useful tools and information on forging and maintaining tools. Basic tool making tools will be the emphasis but some forging of basic horseshoeing tools will be introduced. There is the possibility of later follow clinics where specific tools are made, shoe making tools, tongs, hammers, etc. |
